Full Job Description Teaching Assistant

Care First:
Further Education - Walsall Campus

Salary: £22,160.62 per annum (not pro rata)

Hours:

37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8.30am – 4.30pm

Contract:

Permanent | Term Time Only

Eligibility: UK applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship.

Your role will include:
  • Support teachers in planning and delivering lessons, providing one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learner needs.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a stimulating learning environment and preparing teaching resources as directed.
  • Support learners in managing behaviour, developing self-regulation skills, and contributing to behaviour plans.
  • Assist with morning routines, personal care, and other pastoral needs as required.
  • Contribute to Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Support Profiles, Personal Learning Goals, risk assessments, and maintain accurate records of learner progress and incidents.
  • Ensure learner safety and wellbeing, reporting safeguarding concerns promptly to the appropriate lead.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, care staff, therapists, external agencies, and communicate effectively with parents/carers.
  • Participate in training, team meetings, performance reviews, and keep up to date with best practices in SEND and specialist education.
  • Support off‑site activities and educational visits, ensuring adherence to risk assessments and safety procedures.
  • Maintain high professional standards, conduct, and compliance, undertaking additional duties as directed by the Deputy Campus Lead.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has willingness to work towards relevant teaching/support qualifications;
    Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent desirable.
  • Experience working in educational or student-facing settings, with experience supporting learners with SEND/SEMH and managing challenging behaviour desirable.
  • Understanding of safeguarding requirements and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Ability to provide tailored support to meet individual learner needs.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organisational, and basic IT skills.
  • Empathetic, patient, resilient, adaptable, committed to inclusion, learner-centred approaches, and maintaining high expectations for learners and self.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance and a valid driving licence, with willingness to travel between sites as required.
