SEMH Teacher - Full-time, temporary to permanent from September 2026

This SEMH Teacher role offers the opportunity to work within a small alternative education provision supporting secondary-aged pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The setting provides a structured, nurturing environment with a strong focus on relationships, consistency, and personalised learning. This SEMH Teacher role is ideal for an experienced secondary teacher or a primary-train teacher who is confident delivering learning within an alternative provision model.

Duties

as SEMH Teacher:
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Teach secondary-aged pupils within a small alternative education provision
  • Create a calm, structured, and predictable learning environment
  • Use positive behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies consistently
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual academic and emotional needs
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to support engagement and progress
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting learning plans as required
  • Work collaboratively with support staff and wider professionals
  • Contribute to individual support plans and intervention strategies
  • Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times
Ideal SEMH Teacher:
  • Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs
  • Primary-train teachers with relevant experience are encouraged to apply
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Calm, resilient, and reflective teaching approach
  • Ability to adapt teaching for a small, specialist setting
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Willingness to commit to a temporary role with the opportunity to become permanent
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Salary and benefits:

Your salary - dependent on experience - is paid weekly through PAYE - that means no self-employed or umbrella companies.
