Help shape the next generation of electrical professionals

As a leading nationwide apprenticeship provider, Skills for Security is proud of its excellent learner feedback, strong outcomes and state-of-the-art training centres.

We are looking for an experienced electrician ready to take the next step in their career as an Electrical Tutor. This is a rewarding opportunity to share your practical knowledge, inspire future talent and help apprentices develop the skills, confidence and professional behaviours needed to thrive in the electrotechnical industry.

You will be based within comfortable commuting distance of our Walsall, Warrington or Watford training centres. This is a hybrid role, but you should expect to work from your centre around four days each week.

Are You Ready to Shape the Future?

As an Electrical Tutor, you will support learners completing the Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship Standard. You will combine your industry expertise with high-quality teaching, coaching and assessment, helping apprentices make meaningful progress from enrolment through to Gateway and Apprenticeship Assessment.

Alongside technical and vocational training, you will help learners develop the wider skills that make a real difference in the workplace: confidence, resilience, communication, professionalism and personal effectiveness.

You will also have opportunities to support commercial, regulated and CPD training programmes, helping us grow our training offer and deliver a first-class experience for learners, employers and industry partners.

Fully Funded Training

If you have the technical expertise and passion to develop others, we will support you to become an outstanding tutor. This includes fully funded teaching and assessor qualifications where these are not already held, alongside ongoing professional development and clear progression opportunities.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver engaging practical, theory and online learning sessions to apprentices and commercial learners.
  • Manage a caseload of electrical apprentices, providing workplace reviews, assessment, feedback and targeted support.
  • Identify where learners need tailored support and work with the right people to help them stay engaged and on track.
  • Prepare learners for Gateway, completion and Apprenticeship Assessment.
  • Deliver regulated qualifications, commercial courses and CPD within your area of expertise.
  • Embed English, maths and employability skills into teaching and learning.
  • Create an inclusive, motivating learning environment that supports every learner to succeed.
  • Maintain accurate learner records and ensure delivery meets government, awarding-body and quality requirements.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, standardisation, internal quality assurance and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Skills for Security professionally when working with employers, external clients and partners.

Above all, you will be passionate about helping learners turn their potential into successful careers.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an occupationally competent and qualified electrician with:

  • A minimum of five years’ hands‑on, “on the tools” industry experience.
  • Strong technical experience in electrical installation, inspection, testing, maintenance and fault finding.
  • A relevant Level 3 technical qualification or higher, such as a Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Installation, Level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnical Services, or an Electrical Engineering qualification.
  • The confidence to demonstrate and teach core industry skills.
  • An understanding that professional expectations in education differ from those on site, and the ability to model appropriate conduct, communication safeguarding and professional boundaries when working with apprentices.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and coach different personalities and learning styles.
  • A genuine appetite for professional development and a willingness to complete funded teaching and assessor qualifications where needed.
  • Flexibility to travel and occasionally stay overnight when required.

Experience of teaching, mentoring or supervising apprentices is highly…
