Role Overview

A progressive secondary school in Walsall is seeking a practical detail-oriented and safety-conscious Design & Technology Technician to join their DT and Engineering department ASAP. Working alongside specialist teaching staff you will take day-to-day responsibility for preparing workshop spaces maintaining tools and machinery and organizing raw materials for practical lessons across Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 (GCSE Design Technology / Resistant Materials / Graphics) and Key Stage 5 (A Level Design & Technology / BTEC Engineering).

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare materials hand tools and apparatus for daily practical sessions involving timber metals polymers and electronics.

• Maintain service and conduct routine safety inspections on traditional workshop machinery (e.g. pillar drills band saws circular saws wood lathes) and CAD/CAM equipment (3D printers laser cutters).

• Enforce strict health and safety standards across prep rooms and workshops in accordance with DATA CLEAPSS and COSHH regulations.

• Monitor inventory manage department stock levels and coordinate the procurement of consumable materials and specialized tools.

• Assist teaching staff during practical workshop lessons providing technical support and guidance to pupils on safe tool usage.

Key Requirements

• Practical qualification or professional background in Design & Technology Carpentry Engineering Product Design or a related field.

• Prior experience operating traditional workshop machinery and modern digital fabrication tools (e.g. laser cutters 3D printers CAD software).

• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within a workshop or school setting (DATA / CLEAPSS training is highly desirable).

• Excellent organizational skills practical problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to maintenance.

• Legal right to work in the UK.
