Position: Day Operations Team Leader
Astute's Power Team are looking for an Day Operations Team Leader to join a brand new Energy from Waste Power Station located in Walsall.

The facility, which is currently under construction, will provide a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 436,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and will generate over 49 megawatts of low carbon energy.

The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising the team and carrying out the day-to-day operational activities safely, and efficiently.

Responsibilities and duties of the Day Operations Team Leader role
Reporting to the Operations Manager you will:

Responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of the Weighbridge, Tipping Hall and Ash Hall, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures, risk assessments and health & safety requirements.
Provide day-to-day supervision and operational leadership to the Day Operations Team, taking an active role in decision-making and ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
Coordinate, operate and supervise waste and residue facilities, site housekeeping, on-site traffic management, mobile plant and waste crane operations in line with procedures and risk assessments.
Conduct first-line vehicle and mobile plant maintenance inspections to ensure equipment remains safe and operational, alongside maintaining high standards of site and mobile plant housekeeping.
Monitor and promote Health & Safety performance, undertaking safety and plant inspections, maintaining designated plant area responsibilities, and participating in routine H&S meetings and forums.
Support the development, implementation and review of Day Operations procedures, safe systems of work and risk assessments to continuously improve operational safety and compliance.
Participate in operational improvement initiatives, coordinating corrective actions, defect notifications and timely rectification of identified issues.
Support the induction, training and ongoing development of new and existing employees, as well as visiting drivers and contractors.
Manage Weighbridge operations, including driver inductions, waste acceptance, operation of the weighbridge system, and identification, reporting and management of non-conforming waste deliveries.
Maintain accurate operational logs, records and documentation, ensuring all facility, equipment and vehicle defects are identified and reported promptly.
Operate waste cranes and manage bunker stock levels, including the removal of non-conforming waste, monitoring of fire protection systems, waste hopper feeding and coordination with the Shift Operations Team.
Safely load ash residues into vehicle trailers and oversee the safe operation and monitoring of the Ash Handling Hall and associated conveyor systems.
Manage Tipping Hall operations, including on-site traffic management, monitoring exclusion zones and tipping points, and ensuring safe vehicle movements throughout the facility.
Conduct routine visual inspections of incoming waste, maintain high standards of housekeeping, and identify, report and manage non-conforming deliveries, incidents and operational issues.
Ensure all operational activities are conducted in accordance with relevant H&S legislation, environmental requirements, company policies and site-specific procedures.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a leadership, management or a technical subject, although relevant other qualifications with energy recovery or large process plant experience will be considered for the role.

Personal skills

The Day Operations Team Leader role would suit someone who is:

Previous experience with large mobile plant is essential.
Previous experience in Process or Power Plant is desirable.
This role requires a broad background in fuel/material management and handling activities.
Previous Supervisory/Man management experience is essential.
