The MEICA Manager and Authorising Engineer is responsible for the safe and compliant delivery of all Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation activities across wastewater assets, while also acting as the appointed Authorising Engineer for electrical safety under Severn Trent Water (STW) Electrical Safety Rules.
This dual role ensures robust safe systems of work, technical excellence, and effective operational management across treatment works, pumping stations, and supporting infrastructure.
The Role- Act as the appointed Authorising Engineer in accordance with STW Electrical Safety Rules.
- Oversee and manage the authorisation, assessment, and competency of electrical personnel.
- Review and approve Permits-to-Work
, high‑level electrical isolations
, and safety documentation. - Lead investigations into electrical incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain electrical safety governance across all wastewater sites.
- Provide specialist technical advice on LV systems, isolations, MCCs, control systems, and electrical safety compliance.
- Manage MEICA engineering teams responsible for mechanical, electrical, ICA, and automation systems.
- Plan and deliver preventative, reactive, and statutory maintenance activities.
- Ensure asset reliability, efficiency, and compliance with environmental and operational standards.
- Oversee upgrades, installations, commissioning, and integration of MEICA equipment.
- Coordinate engineering support during major outages, shutdowns, and operational incidents.
- Drive continuous improvement in equipment performance, maintenance strategy, and resource utilisation.
- Manage contractors, suppliers, and engineering partners to ensure safe and high-quality delivery.
- Recognised electrical engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or above).
- Strong experience in MEICA engineering within wastewater, utilities, or industrial environments.
Demonstrated competence with electrical safety rules and permit‑to‑work systems. - Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong working knowledge of pumps, MCCs, motors, mechanical systems, instrumentation, PLC/SCADA.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (IEng / CEng) or working towards it.
- Comp Ex, IOSH Managing Safely, or NEBOSH.
- Experience with in STW or another UK water company.
- Experience with capital works or project delivery.
