A major Energy from Waste (EfW) project in Walsall is seeking an experienced Commissioning Lead Engineer – Boilers to take full responsibility for commissioning the boiler package on a large‑scale waste‑to‑energy facility. This is a senior, long‑term contract role (outside IR35) offering technical ownership, strong autonomy and the opportunity to play a critical role in the delivery of a complex, safety‑critical plant.

The successful contractor will lead commissioning activities from a technical, safety and delivery standpoint, working closely with OEMs, subcontractors and wider project teams.

What you’ll be responsible for
  • Leading the safe and compliant commissioning of the full boiler package
  • Driving a strong HSEQ culture across all commissioning activities
  • Ensuring all works are executed in line with RAMS, site standards and legislation
  • Coordinating commissioning sequences, interfaces and test schedules
  • Managing LOTO and Permit to Work systems in an active industrial environment
  • Acting as the technical focal point for boiler commissioning with internal teams, OEMs and contractors
  • Maintaining accurate commissioning documentation and providing regular progress updates
  • Contributing to lessons learned and continuous improvement activities
What we’re looking for
  • Degree‑qualified Mechanical or Process Engineer
  • Demonstrable experience commissioning boilers on large‑scale EfW or power generation projects
  • Proven delivery of a complete boiler package through commissioning and handover
  • Strong leadership background with a clear safety‑first mindset
  • Sound working knowledge of HSEQ legal and site requirements
  • Valid SCC or equivalent safety qualification
  • Confident communicator able to lead multidisciplinary commissioning teams
The right profile
  • Highly organised, structured and solutions‑focused
  • Comfortable operating in complex, high‑pressure commissioning environments
  • Proactive planner with strong interface management skills
  • Calm, credible presence on site with the authority to lead
  • Fluent in English (additional languages advantageous)

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced EfW commissioning professional to take end‑to‑end ownership of a critical plant package on a flagship project.
