Walsall Council, salary G12: £55,562 to £59,490 per annum.

At Walsall Council, we believe that people are at the heart of everything we do. Enabling safe, sustainable and reliable journeys to work, education, healthcare, family and friends is essential to reducing inequality and maximising opportunities. We invite you to join us on our journey.

Our team is instrumental in the successful delivery of highways and transport services in Walsall. We are looking to recruit a forward‑thinking and ambitious Major Projects & Minor Improvements (MPMI) Manager who can take a leading role at a local and regional level.

The successful applicant will lead and direct the Major Projects, Minor Improvements, Structures and Geotechnics (MPMI) team within Highways & Transport, reporting to the Group Manager – Transportation & Strategy and collaborating with regional colleagues such as the council’s term maintenance contractor, Black Country Transport and Transport for West Midlands.

The post holder will take day‑to‑day responsibility for the successful development, delivery and management of:

  • Highway engineering
  • Structures (highway)
  • General and principal bridge inspections
  • Geotechnical engineering
  • Preliminary and detail design
  • Delivery of capitally funded infrastructure schemes
  • Contract document preparation and procurement
  • Contract application and administration
  • Management and supervision of contractors and ECI work streams
  • Management and supervision of private development work subject to highway adoption agreements
  • Oversight of the council’s role as the Lead Local Flood Authority

This is a varied role with innovation and partnership working at its heart. We are looking for someone who has a strong civil engineering/structures/geotechnical background and the ability to both lead and work effectively with peers as part of a delivery‑focused team.
