Job Description3-Month Contract with a Local Authority
Summary
- This role involves delivering a highly specialized Housing and Welfare service aimed at preventing homelessness, maximizing income, providing welfare rights, offering housing advice, and promoting wellbeing across the borough. The postholder will support joint working initiatives, represent customers at tribunals or court hearings, and ensure a responsive, customer-centered service aligned with council policy and statutory duties.
Responsibilities
- Provide housing advice, homelessness prevention support, and welfare guidance to the public.
- Conduct comprehensive housing options assessments and interviews, verifying documentation and determining housing needs.
- Make statutory decisions under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) regarding homelessness duties.
- Manage priority housing applications and the assisted choice process under the Council’s Allocation Scheme.
- Authorize placements into temporary accommodation, considering financial constraints.
- Prevent homelessness through negotiation with families, landlords, solicitors, housing providers, and other stakeholders.
Essential Experience Required
- Experience with housing legislation, homelessness, allocations, welfare benefits, and money management.
Experience providing complex advice and maintaining strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience delivering service improvements and working collaboratively across teams and agencies.
Essential Qualifications Required
5 GCEs or equivalent (A to C, including Maths and English Language).
Additional Information
- Working hours:
37 hours per week. - The role requires Enhanced DBS with barred list.
- 3 days on-site, with some site visits; access to a vehicle and driving license is ideal.
