This is an exciting opportunity for a support worker to work with the Health in Pregnancy team supporting pregnant women in Walsall.

You will assist by providing health and social support throughout their pregnancy and following the birth of their child.

To assist in providing support for vulnerable women in pregnancy within the hospital and community setting.

To promote and advise parents on safe sleeping and preparing for a safe environment in the home following the birth of the baby Promote the benefits of supplies earlier in the pregnancy and provide support to initiate and continue breastfeeding, to signpost local breastfeeding support groups and timely referrals for assistance to Specialist Health Visitor for Infant Feeding where concerns are identified.

Raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding amongst disadvantaged groups and promote breastfeeding to pregnant and postnatal women, their families and the wider community in Walsall.

Adhere to and promote Department of Health & Baby Friendly Initiative recommendations in relation to breastfeeding / infant feeding and the Introduction to Solid Foods and support to clients to implement these recommendations by working with them on an individual basis Encourage the uptake of Healthy Start Vitamins for women during pregnancy and ensure access to Healthy Start vouchers for eligible families.

Support the team to provide information regarding services available support women in the antenatal and postnatal period (smoking cessation, alcohol support, my time active, carbon monoxide alarms, healthy weight services, nutrition during pregnancy, home safety, fire alarms, room thermometers). Collate resources and set up rooms for activities and ensure there is a safe environment for mothers to be to receive information.
