Position: Disco Volunteer Role

Company Overview

Midland Mencap is a charity that works and campaigns for accessible and inclusive services and a better quality of life for everyone with experience of learning disabilities and additional needs.

Purpose of the role

People with a learning disability or additional needs are often isolated and excluded from mainstream leisure and social activities. We believe that everyone has the right to have fun and feel safe.

Role

We are looking for volunteers to help create a happy atmosphere at our every other-monthly disco for people with a learning disability based in the Walsall area.

Responsibilities
  • Be a friendly face for our attendees, chatting and helping them to get involved and have fun.
  • Meeting and greeting attendees.
  • Support making and serving hot and cold drinks.
  • Help set up the room and equipment and tidy away at the end of the night.
  • Support staff with tasks throughout the evening.
  • If you are confident DJing, you can also use our equipment to play the music.
Skills & Qualifications
  • A lively and friendly personality to ensure a happy atmosphere.
  • Accepting of people who may be different to you.
  • Happy to chat.
  • If wanting to DJ, ideally you will have some experience of playing music in public using DJ music apps via our laptop.
  • Confident to talk to the room using the microphone.
  • Willing to learn and act within guidelines set out by Midland Mencap.
  • Good time management skills, reliability.
  • Be aged 18+.
  • An enhanced DBS check will be required by all successful applicants.
When and Where
  • Pelsall Community Centre, Station Rd, Pelsall, Walsall WS3 4BQ
    (venue may change).
  • One Thursday evening every two months, 7pm – 9pm.
