About The Role
Join the RAC’s Technical Training Solutions team as a Roadside Technical Trainer
, where you’ll play a critical role in shaping the technical capability of our Roadside Technicians and Mobile Mechanics nationwide.
This is a hands‑on, high‑impact role designed for an experienced automotive expert who is passionate about developing talent, raising performance standards, and supporting the evolving needs of a fast‑moving roadside operation.
You will design and deliver first‑class technical, performance, compliance and induction training — both regionally and nationally — while managing training delivery in classroom, workshop, and field environments.
What You’ll Be Doing- Deliver high‑quality technical and performance training across Roadside, SMR and associated service‑delivery teams.
- Facilitate training in classroom settings, at national/regional venues, in‑van sessions and on‑the‑job field coaching.
- Support delivery of Roadside Technician and Mobile Mechanic induction programmes.
- Plan, structure and deliver agreed numbers of training days to meet operational and business objectives.
- Analyse business and performance data to identify training needs and measure training effectiveness.
- Maintain industry‑leading technical knowledge to Master Technician standard, including EV Level 4 capability.
- Administer and record all training activities accurately, ensuring compliance with RAC standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage or support the daily operation of the RAC regional training venue including maintenance, bookings and set‑up.
- React to changing business requirements and short‑notice training demands in a dynamic operational environment.
- Provide national support when required, including travel and overnight stays across the UK and Ireland.
- Extensive technical experience to Master Technician level
, supported by relevant City & Guilds or equivalent qualifications (Parts 1, 2,
3). - Strong background in technical training, coaching, or professional development within the automotive industry.
- Training qualifications such as IPD, Cert Ed, C&G (or willingness to achieve them).
- Expert diagnostic knowledge across electrical, electronic, mechanical and EV systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver training at all levels of the organisation.
- Strong organisational and analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance data.
- High IT literacy, including Microsoft applications and LMS platforms, with the capability to troubleshoot training equipment.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt quickly to changing operational needs.
- Flexibility to travel extensively and stay overnight when business demands require.
