An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Manager to join a well-established and growing manufacturing business based in Wolverhampton. This is a hands‑on management role responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day transport operation, ensuring legal compliance, maintaining high operational standards and leading a small transport team.
This position would suit a proactive transport professional with strong leadership skills, excellent knowledge of transport legislation and a commitment to delivering an efficient and compliant operation.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the daily operation of the transport department.
- Lead, motivate and support the transport team to ensure excellent performance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transport legislation and industry regulations.
- Monitor and manage Drivers' Working Time Regulations and ensure records remain fully compliant.
- Ensure vehicle inspections, maintenance schedules and defect reporting are completed and kept up to date.
- Maintain accurate transport documentation and compliance records.
- Work closely with warehouse and production teams to ensure deliveries are planned and completed efficiently.
- Monitor fleet utilisation and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the transport function.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the department.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Previous experience managing a transport team within a manufacturing, logistics or distribution environment.
- Strong knowledge of Drivers' Working Time Regulations and transport compliance.
- Experience ensuring vehicle inspections, maintenance records and compliance documentation are maintained.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Strong leadership and people management experience.
- Good communication skills with the ability to build relationships across departments.
- A proactive approach with excellent problem‑solving abilities.
- Competent IT skills and experience using transport or fleet management systems.
- Forklift Truck (FLT) training or certification would be advantageous, although this is not essential.
