Job Overview

Provide nursing care to patients and manage the ward during spans of duty. Assist in supervising and educating qualified and learner nurses, and support the ward manager to deliver exceptional care for complex surgical patients.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides acute care to a population of 284,300, including inpatient and outpatient services at Manor Hospital and community services.

• Act as a clinical nurse/leader, ensuring patients are assessed, planned, implemented, and evaluated.
• Supervise and monitor the care‑planning process; notify the ward manager of any difficulties.
• Lead the ward team during duty periods.
• Serve as liaison for multidisciplinary and multi‑agency collaboration to achieve best patient outcomes.
• Provide support to junior nursing staff and participate in the teaching and supervision of staff in training.
• Maintain the Trust’s aims and objectives within the clinical setting.
• Ensure accurate, legible record keeping in accordance with local policies and NMC guidelines.
• Administer intravenous drugs following Trust and local policies.
• Undertake additional training as required and register any new skills acquired.

• Maintain a safe level of nursing staff, taking remedial action and reporting when this cannot be achieved.
• Assist the ward manager in staff selection, monitoring sickness and absence.
• Assist the ward manager with individual performance reviews of staff.
• Assist in the efficient and effective use of resources to meet patient and Trust needs.
• Deputise for senior nurses when requested.
