This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and confident social work professional to make a real difference when it matters most, supporting vulnerable children, young people, and adults during out-of-hours emergencies.
This role offers the chance to work in a fast-paced and rewarding environment where your professional judgement, safeguarding expertise, and ability to respond effectively in crisis situations will have a direct impact on people's lives.
Working Pattern
Initially, the role will involve shorter evening and weekend shifts (5:00pm – 12:00am), progressing to a combination of longer shifts, including overnight work, once fully established within the service.
About the Role
As an EDT Duty Worker, you will respond to urgent referrals received outside of normal office hours, working across both Children's and Adults' Services. You will be responsible for assessing risk, making critical decisions, and coordinating support for vulnerable individuals who require immediate intervention.
Key responsibilities include:
* Responding to emergency referrals outside standard working hours
* Supporting children, young people, vulnerable adults, and families experiencing crisis situations
* Undertaking safeguarding interventions and risk assessments
* Working closely with partner agencies to reduce risk and ensure safety
* Completing detailed, accurate, and timely case recordings
* Making sound professional decisions in complex and high-risk situations
* Delivering effective emergency social work interventions across Children's and Adults' Services
What We're Looking For
* Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
* Strong safeguarding knowledge and excellent practice skills
* Significant experience within Child Protection, Adult Safeguarding, or both
* Sound knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and Care Act 2014
* Ability to work independently and confidently under pressure
* Excellent assessment, decision-making, and risk management skills
* Proven commitment to continuous professional development
Applications are welcomed from practitioners with experience across both Children's and Adults' Services. Where applicants have a strong Children's Services and Child Protection background, additional support and training can be provided to strengthen Adult Social Care safeguarding knowledge.
