Family Help Senior Practitioner (12 months fixed term) – G11

Grade: G11
Salary: £49,282 - £54,495

About the Job

Walsall Council is launching a new pilot team that will shape practice around Systemic ideas, leading a fresh approach to working with families where neglect is the primary concern. The role will develop and deliver a bespoke framework for families, incorporating tools such as GCP 2, therapeutic support for parents and a focus on moving families from first‑order to second‑order change.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Practitioner you will:

  • Lead practice development and offer mentoring, coaching and expertise to the team.
  • Provide outstanding support for children and families, ensuring high quality and effective practice.
  • Act as part of a leadership team to maintain a learning organisation, fostering accountable relationships with partners such as Ofsted.
  • Help manage workloads to keep an average of 12 children per practitioner, with strong managerial support, essential paperwork only and enabling technology.
  • Support team members in identifying specialisms, accessing training and progressing into roles such as Consultant Social Worker, Lead Child Protection Practitioner or Team Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold relevant social work qualifications and experience.
  • Obtain and maintain an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check; any overseas criminal record must be disclosed.
  • Demonstrate fluent spoken English and meet the Government Code of Practice for English Language Fluency.
  • Comply with Walsall Council’s safeguarding policies and commitment to continuous professional development.
