Class 2 Driver (HIAB) - Hands-On Construction Role

Aldridge, Walsall

We are looking for a Class 2 Driver with HIAB experience to join our construction team in Aldridge, Walsall. This is a physically demanding, hands-on role and is best suited to someone with a background in highways, utilities, water works, civils or major infrastructure projects (e.g. HS2) who understands the realities of site work and manual labour.

This is not a trunking or driving-only role
. Driving forms part of the job, but a significant portion of your time will be spent working on-site alongside the installation team
.

Pay Rate

£16.00-£17.00 per hour (depending on experience)

The Role

You’ll be transporting equipment and materials to sites across the UK and playing an active role in the physical installation and removal of street furniture
, including bus shelters and digital advertising screens.

Expect regular manual handling, digging, groundwork, lifting, and assisting trades on site
.

• Nationwide travel required
• Regular overnight stays (accommodation & reasonable expenses provided)
• Full-time, permanent PAYE position (initial trial period applies)

Key Responsibilities

• Driving and operating HGV Class 2 vehicles in compliance with legislation
• Safe loading, unloading, and securing of materials and plant
• Hands‑on involvement in installations, removals, and groundwork
• Manual labour including digging, breaking out, lifting, and site preparation
• Assisting with works in live highway environments
• Operating HIAB equipment where certified
• Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting defects
• Maintaining high standards of safety, housekeeping, and professionalism on site

📋
Requirements

Essential

• Full UK HGV Class 2 (Category
  
  C) licence
• Valid Driver CPC
• Digital Tachograph card
• CSCS card
• Previous experience in highways, civils, utilities, water works or similar heavy site environments
• Comfortable with manual labour and physically demanding work
• Flexible to work away from home when required
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work as part of a site team

Highly Desirable

• HIAB / ALLMI certification
• NRSWA accreditation
• Experience on major infrastructure projects
