Job DescriptionMilestones Day School and Transitions Program is a year-round private special education school located in Waltham, MA and works with students with autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, and a variety of attention and/or psychiatric challenges. We service students ranging in age from elementary grades through post high school, and our staff work in multi-disciplinary teams to support students in particular grade cohorts.
The position consists of teaching group lessons (focusing on social skills) as well as individual/dyad therapy sessions (focusing on building speech and language skills). The SLP also conducts formal evaluations of students and offers consultation to classroom staff. We have a well-stocked therapy center with plenty of materials to choose from and excellent opportunities for professional development.
SCHEDULE:
School hours are Monday-Friday 7:30AM-3:00PM, plus 5 hours/week on or offsite for planning
This assignment is for a Parental leave coverage from approx. December 9, 2026 – June 23, 2027
- Write IEP goals and progress reports for all students s/he works with
- Assure that all students are making sufficient progress towards their goals; or ensure that parents are informed prior to writing progress report, if the student is not making effective progress
- Collect data on student’s targeted benchmarks
- Follow service delivery grid as specified in student’s IEP
- Formally and informally assess students every 1-3 years
- Prepare group lesson plans to increase student’s skill set
- Run appropriate classroom/community groups as assigned
- Write monthly curriculum blurbs for school website
- Participate in weekly meetings regarding students (including common planning time meetings, supervisory meetings, and team meetings)
- Support new hires and existing staff in implementation of SLP practices
- Assess new students upon enrollment and create protocols as needed; provide training to staff regarding this protocol
- Orient new students to MDS’ systems (i.e. sensory break, 1-5 scale, etc…)
- Collaborate with any outside SLP clinicians to assure consistency
- Collaborate with all members of Milestones interdisciplinary team
- Provide individual services to students with specific SLP needs as identified on their IEP
- Maintain contact/consultation with parents/guardians as needed
- Attend conferences and workshops to increase knowledge and awareness of various treatments and aspects of student disabilities
- Maintain professional license status at all times
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by administrative team
- Masters degree
- Active Massachusetts Licensure in Speech and Language Pathology
- Prior experience treating language based learning disorders and working with students on the autism spectrum, is preferred.
