This post is for a CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist position in the Waltham Forest CAMHS Community Team, based at Wood Street Health Centre, 6 Linford Road, E17 3LA

This is a replacement part-time post of 7 Programmed Activities (PAs) with a ratio of 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) to 2.0 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).On-call responsibilities

The postholder will participate in the Senior Psychiatrist on-call rota covering out of hours and weekends for Mental Health Services within NELFT. The on-call covers service delivery for children and adolescents presenting with mental health problems. The rota is covered by local community substantive CAMHS consultants and the two inpatient consultants and is currently 1:12, with a 3% Category A salary supplement (subject to change as the rota expands

Main duties of the job

This is a substantive post of 7 Programmed Activities (PAs). The postholder will provide senior medical leadership within the access and comprehensive pathways, supporting high-quality assessment, formulation, diagnosis, and treatment planning, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

The role involves assessing a broad range of child and adolescent mental health presentations, including comprehensive psychiatric assessment, formulation, and diagnostic work where indicated. The postholder will work within a well-supported multidisciplinary team, with access to a wide range of evidence-based interventions.

The post includes medical treatment planning and, where clinically indicated, prescribing and medication review in line with national and local guidance, with appropriate monitoring and risk management. Within the comprehensive pathway, the postholder will provide senior specialist CAMHS input for children and families requiring enhanced support, including complex presentations and higher levels of risk or need. A key component of the role is collaborative working across the MDT and with partner agencies (including education, social care, acute services, and safeguarding networks) to ensure coordinated, timely, and effective care.

Where clinically necessary, and given the evolving organisational structure of the service, the postholder's role may also contribute to the other clinical pathways.

Job responsibilities

To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing, and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trusts risk register.

Clinical

Skills:

To act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for their own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.

The post holder will have full registration with a licence to practice from the General Medical Council (GMC).Further professional knowledge will have been gained through accredited courses, workshops, study, and in-house training programmes.

To be responsible, and accountable, for service delivery to clients/patients.

To be able to assess and develop care plans to meet the complex needs of patients with a variety of conditions, recognising own limitations and seeking advice when necessary. This will include continuously evaluating and acting on outcomes.

To be able to initiate referrals to other health professional specialist services and agencies.

To provide patients and relatives with information and education thus ensuring they have meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life.
