The NHS is working with schools and colleges across England to provide expert emotional wellbeing and mental health support for up to half a million pupils a year as part of the Government’s ambitious plans to transform child and young people’s mental health through the NHS Long‑Term Plan. Waltham Forest MHST, established in 2021, currently supports more than 30 schools in Waltham Forest and is looking for innovative, enthusiastic and motivated EMHPs or CWPs to join our expanding team.
Job Responsibilities- Deliver evidence‑based clinical interventions for parents, children and young people within educational and linked community settings, receiving clinical supervision from senior MHST practitioners.
- Work in partnership with schools to support children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their families in self‑management through Guided Self‑Help CBT‑based interventions.
- Competently assess and formulate needs, develop agreed plans for care and use routine outcome measures to evaluate care, acting on feedback and supporting senior clinicians with risk formulation and escalation.
- Adhere to activity targets, ensuring a set number of contacts and sessions per week to improve timely access and minimise waiting times.
- Keep coherent records of all activity in line with service protocols and use records and outcome data to inform decision‑making and meet data collection requirements.
- Collaborate with children, young people and communities to enhance and widen access to support health promotion, including delivery and facilitation of whole‑school interventions such as workshops, focus groups, audits and parents’ evenings.
- Manage own workload, prioritise tasks effectively, meet deadlines and work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to high standards.
- Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner or Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner, registered or in process of registering with the BABCP or BPS.
- Experience working with children and young people and a solid understanding of the educational system in England.
- Knowledge of evidence‑based interventions in schools and the ability to deliver Guided Self‑Help CBT‑based interventions.
- Strong assessment, formulation and risk management skills.
- Ability to meet activity targets, maintain accurate records and use outcome data for decision‑making.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Probationary period:
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt unless they are already part of a probationary period or a bank member of staff.
High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London (Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Havering, and Waltham Forest):
This post also attracts a payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,714 to maximum £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part-time).
