Overview
Locum Consultant Plastic Surgeon with an interest in Skin Oncology. This part-time locum job offers an opportunity to work in a busy Plastic Surgery Department with one of the largest Melanoma Units in the UK, with a local and national referral pattern.

Main dutiesNew appointee will work closely with colleagues from Dermatology, Oncology and Radiotherapy departments as part of a multidisciplinary skin cancer service. The appointee is expected to develop and undertake research in skin cancer surgery, undertake teaching duties for undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and allied health professionals, participate in audit and the Trust clinical governance programme.

Job responsibilitiesWork closely with Dermatology, Oncology and Radiotherapy in providing melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer care. Liaise with consultant colleagues to provide internal cover for annual and/or sick leave for on-call duties; under exceptional circumstances this may require some flexibility in hours. Contribute to teaching of junior medical staff and medical students. Take an interest in research and actively contribute towards quality improvement in the Plastic Surgery service.
Undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service. Act in line with GMC Good Medical Practice, including Duty of Candour. Specification Qualifications and Training
- MBChB or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- FRCS (Plast) or equivalent
- Higher degree (MD or PhD)
- Experience and training in full range of emergency and elective plastic surgery conditions
- Experience in skin oncology
- Evidence of service development in plastic surgery
- Commitment to working cooperatively and collaboratively with other health professionals and organisations
- Ability to manage and lead a surgical firm
- Experience of teaching and supervising junior doctors in training
- Undergraduate teaching experience
- Ability to manage and lead research projects
- Understanding of NHS Constitution principles and responsibilities to patients, colleagues and the Trust
