Are you passionate about supporting deaf children to achieve their full potential? Do you hold British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 or above and want to work in a specialist educational setting where communication and inclusion are at the heart of everything?
We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded specialist deaf school in Wandsworth for a dedicated BSL Learning Support Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a welcoming, experienced team and support deaf and hearing-impaired pupils to thrive both academically and socially.

The Role As a BSL Learning Support Assistant, you will:

Support deaf and hearing-impaired pupils across the school using British Sign Language (BSL).
Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils access learning and achieve their EHCP outcomes.
Work closely with class teachers to adapt lessons and learning resources.
Encourage communication, language development, confidence and independence.
Support pupils with additional SEND, including Autism, Speech & Language needs and learning difficulties where appropriate.
Assist with behaviour management using positive, child-centred approaches.
Build positive relationships with pupils, families and the wider school community.
Collaborate with Teachers of the Deaf, Speech & Language Therapists, Audiologists and other specialist professionals.

The Ideal Candidate
BSL Level 2 qualification or above (essential).
Experience working with children or young people in a school, care or support setting.
A genuine passion for supporting deaf learners.
Patient, caring and resilient with excellent communication skills.
Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable Experience
Working in a deaf school or hearing resource provision.
Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language needs or SEMH.
Knowledge of Total Communication, Makaton or visual communication strategies.
Relevant Teaching Assistant or Learning Support qualification.
