Martin at Education 365 is delighted to be partnering with a lovely independent preparatory school in Wandsworth to recruit a Temporary Head of English for a full-time maternity cover position from February 2027.

We would love to hear from warm, enthusiastic and accomplished English practitioners who are passionate about excellent teaching, supporting colleagues and helping young people develop a genuine love of reading, writing and language.

As Temporary Head of English, you will lead the department across Years 5–8 while continuing to teach engaging English lessons. You will support curriculum planning, assessment and pupil progress, guide departmental colleagues and help maintain consistently high standards during the maternity cover period.

The school is particularly interested in candidates with strong KS2 English experience, ideally including KS3, and an understanding of preparing pupils for 11+ and 13+ assessments.

Experience of leading, mentoring or developing colleagues would be highly valued.
