Adecco is recruiting for three experienced and motivated Temporary Accommodation Officers to support a busy Housing & Regeneration service within a South West London local authority. This is a vital frontline position working directly with households impacted by homelessness, ensuring they are placed in safe, suitable accommodation while supporting long‑term housing solutions.

Temporary Accommodation Officer - 3 positions available!
Public Sector - Local Authority
Temporary Role - 3 months with possible extension
Full Time - Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week
£25.16 per hour PAYE / £32.88 per hour Umbrella

* Please be aware that, owing to the operational demands of the role, this post is entirely on‑site with no option for home working.
* About the Role

In this crucial post, you will:

Allocate and let temporary accommodation in line with statutory legislation and the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
Negotiate and persuade households in temporary accommodation to consider private rented sector offers as a sustainable housing solution.
Manage placements to ensure efficient use of stock and minimise the need for B&B accommodation.
Complete suitability assessments under homelessness legislation.
Oversee administrative processes relating to offers, refusals, and duty discharges.
Carry out regular property inspections, ensuring compliance with required standards (including HHSRS).
Liaise with private landlords, lettings agents, and accommodation providers to secure and maintain quality housing options.
Prepare reports, case notes, and written statements for legal queries, reviews, and stakeholder enquiries.
Support vulnerable households and refer them to appropriate services where necessary.
Promote rehousing pathways and mobility schemes to reduce reliance on temporary accommodation.
Manage tenancy documents, leasing schemes, and associated legal processes.

About You

We are looking for candidates who bring a strong mix of technical knowledge, practical experience, and interpersonal skills. You will ideally have:

Experience in homelessness, temporary accommodation, housing allocations, or lettings.
Strong negotiation skills, particularly when encouraging households to explore private rented solutions.
Knowledge of Universal Credit, wider benefits, income thresholds, and how these impact affordability.
Solid understanding of homelessness legislation and the statutory obligations of local authorities (e.g., Housing Act 1996, HRA 2017).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills - able to engage clearly, confidently, and empathetically.
Experience interacting with landlords, accommodation providers, and external agencies.
Ability to work independently, assess risk, and manage competing priorities in a demanding environment.
Confidence supporting vulnerable individuals and managing challenging or sensitive situations.
Ability to conduct property inspections and travel between sites.
Flexibility to participate in duty rota working.
Previous experience in a similar role is highly beneficial.
