- The GESH CYP Nurse (SGUH) post in Safeguarding children is a vital role within our team based at St Georges Hospital.
- Working closely with the Safeguarding children team, clinicians across the organisation and with our wider partnerships, this role ensures timely discussion/liaison to safeguard children and and families at risk.
- The role is not patient facing, but requires visiting the wards where it may be necessary to have conversations with patients and their families. You will be working collaboratively with a wide range of people and will need to be able to communicate effectively.
- You will need to be aware of themes emerging locally and nationally relating to safeguarding children and families, and bring a keen interest in sharing information via our training / teaching programmes.
- To identify safeguarding risks for children/Young People (including children of adults at risk) and support staff to be confident and competent in making appropriate referrals/information sharing to community services.
- To work closely with both the named nurse and clinical nurse specialists to continually promote and develop best practice within the trust, including participation in audit, quality improvement, teaching and training and experience safeguarding supervision.
- To form close working partnership with the safeguarding team, local statutory Services and community practitioners.
- To ensure information is shared with the appropriate services including Maternity, Health Visitors, School Nurses, CAMHS, IDVA's, MARAC, Social Workers, Children Looked After Team and out of area children.
- Gain broad understanding and competence in safeguarding across the lifespan, providing key signposts to colleagues as needed.
- Participate in Education and Training for clinical areas as delegated.
- Once supervision trained, to be supported to deliver safeguarding supervision as delegated.

- Registered Nurse/Midwife
- BSc (Hons) or working towards one
- Practice assessor/mentoring teaching qualification
- Experience as a safeguarding children supervisor
- Participation in research, clinical audit or quality improvement
- Knowledge of levels of needs frameworks
- Experience working in an acute hospital setting
- At least 2 years experience
- Delivering training
- Delivering safeguarding supervision
- Knowledge of safeguarding and appropriate safeguarding procedures
- Understanding of NHS policy and legislation
- Excellent skills and capabilities in managing workload
- Understands basis of consent
- Excellent presentation skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Experience of report writing
