Overview

Mortgage Loan Officer (Southeastern, MA) — The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank

Summary:

Responsible for Residential Lending business development in the assigned area, including development of a market area business plan, community relations, developing relationships with centers of influence, branch managers, and the Bank’s business line development officers to ensure maximum customer fulfillment for all Bank products. Responsible for delivering quality loans that meet all documentation and compliance standards. Responsible for managing the pipeline of loans ensuring underwriting, closing, and rate lock commitments meet performance standards.

Responsibilities
  • Business Development and Community Relations:
    Establishes business development and sales goals for the assigned territory aligned with department and corporate goals; focuses on increasing the Bank’s mortgage market share and the number of services per relationship and loan growth.
  • Develops relationships with centers of influence (e.g., Realtors, Chambers of Commerce, and business/industry associations); regularly attends meetings and builds a referral network.
  • Fulfills CRA obligations by promoting Affordable Housing Products and participating in civic and community organizations that benefit local communities (e.g., sponsoring and volunteering for first-time homebuyer and credit counseling seminars).
  • Maintains contact with existing customers while growing the customer base.
  • Adheres to the Bank’s customer needs-based selling initiatives (CARE Service).
  • Customer Service:
    Identifies customer needs to ensure the best mortgage product solution; thoroughly explains mortgage products and the mortgage process.
  • Ensures communication with customers from application to closing and coordinates with processing, underwriting, and closing to provide a positive fulfillment process.
  • Resolves problems by actively listening to customer concerns and researching complex questions.
  • General Administration and Compliance:
    Stays up-to-date on the Bank’s products and services, industry practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Understands and applies Bank policies, regulatory and compliance requirements, and changes in underwriting and loan parameter requirements.
  • Prepares and recommends marketing and budget plans for the assigned territory.
Qualifications
  • At least three years of residential lending experience with advanced knowledge of the secondary market.
  • Expertise in loan processing, underwriting, and closing; experience in a mortgage department preferred.
  • At least two years of prior experience in a sales/marketing environment (desirable).
  • Prior experience in retail banking is a plus.
  • Knowledge of general banking industry regulations and compliance requirements; thorough knowledge of bank products and services.
  • Excellent business development, customer service, problem-solving, and sales skills.
  • Associates degree or equivalent in retail management coursework and related training.
  • Cybersecurity awareness to protect the digital environment, the Bank, and customers.
  • Proficiency in loan underwriting and decision making; strong written and verbal communication skills; strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Notary Public license; driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and as an active member of a team.
  • Notable note:
    Role requires registration and licensing in the NMLS database under the Safe Act of 2008.
