Role Overview
Raytheon UK is searching for a Spatial Data Subject Matter Expert to join the OMNIA® Training team. In this role you will support the British Army’s collective training initiatives, reporting to the Data Lead and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams in a matrix organisation. The position is based in Warminster, Wiltshire and is hybrid.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the governance, management, and lifecycle control of spatial data supporting modelling and simulation (M&S) capabilities within ACTS.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Spatial Data Management Plan (SDMP), ensuring compliance with MOD geospatial policies and standards.
- Manage the ingestion, cataloguing, validation, and discoverability of geospatial data within the ACTS Content Catalogue (ACC).
- Ensure all spatial data is configuration managed with appropriate metadata, provenance, revision control, and traceability.
- Establish and maintain processes for spatial data acquisition, validation, integration, and lifecycle management in collaboration with Specialist Geospatial Centres (SGCs).
- Ensure all GEOINT and spatial datasets comply with relevant MOD and UK geospatial standards (e.g., JSP
465, Def Stan
00‑102, MGMP2, GEMINI2). - Liaise with the MOD Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), including the SDI Gatekeeper, Spatial Data Assurance Group (SDAG), and Defence Geospatial Management Board (DGMB).
- Audit and validate spatial data holdings to ensure accuracy, currency, and operational relevance for training and simulation systems.
- Identify and manage Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) dependencies across systems and maintain the PNT Dependency Register.
- Provide spatial data expertise to design reviews, change control boards, and system integration activities.
- Establish effective working relationships with SGCs, MOD SDI stakeholders, and acquisition organisations to ensure efficient spatial data management.
- Engineering background, educated to degree level or with equivalent related experience.
- Demonstrable experience managing spatial data or geospatial intelligence within complex technical or operational environments.
- Strong understanding of spatial data lifecycle management including acquisition, cataloguing, validation, metadata management, and governance.
- Experience implementing geospatial metadata standards and maintaining spatial data catalogues or repositories.
- Knowledge of MOD or UK geospatial data standards and frameworks (e.g., JSP
465, Def Stan
00‑102, MGMP2, GEMINI2). - Experience working within spatial data infrastructure environments or geospatial governance frameworks.
- Understanding of spatial data provenance, traceability, and configuration management principles.
- Experience implementing spatial data quality assurance, audit, and compliance processes.
- Knowledge of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) dependencies within geospatial or simulation systems.
- Experience using geospatial information systems (e.g., ArcGIS or equivalent GIS platforms).
- Understanding of geospatial data formats, coordinate reference systems, and spatial data processing techniques.
- Experience integrating spatial data into modelling, simulation, or analytical environments.
- Ability to develop policies, procedures, and documentation related to spatial data governance and management.
