Overview

As a fast‑paced, retail environment, the Merchandise Manager (MM) leads the team to deliver top‑line sales growth while upholding our mission, vision, and values. The MM reports to the Operations Manager (OM) and manages a team of Task Associates. Responsibilities include shipment, replenishment, omni‑channel, price changes, and markdowns, focusing on performance, people, and process.

Principal

Duties & Responsibilities Performance
  • Promote accountability to meet or exceed store goals (retail & service sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni‑channel, shrink).
  • Drive profitability through operational excellence, sales growth, and expense control.
  • Use store forecast & payroll budgets for scheduling, communicate needs to GM, and meet productivity and financial targets.
  • Analyze financial / operational reports (visit audits, etc.) and take timely actions.
  • Leverage company programs and tools to achieve store goals.
  • Perform makeup/skincare demos for guests to boost sales.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and product benefits.
  • Maintain attendance and hold associates accountable to Ulta’s policy.
People
  • Attract, hire, and retain a diverse, high‑performing team.
  • Build an engaged team aligned with Ulta’s brand and values through collaboration and communication.
  • Create an inclusive environment and support professional development (training, feedback, succession planning, development plans).
  • Participate in brand/category training to drive performance.
  • Model operational excellence, share best practices, set priorities, and provide support.
  • Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program to exceed annual performance goals.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Enforce dress code and use scheduling tools to manage shifts.
  • Prioritize and execute workload using task management tools.
  • Oversee shipment, replenishment, omni‑channel, price changes, and markdowns.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss via safety, inventory control, cash management, and loss prevention.
  • Execute inventory control processes and report theft.
  • Drive continuous improvement and adopt company initiatives and technology.
  • Communicate trends, opportunities, and challenges to field leadership.
Job Qualifications Education
  • High school diploma preferred.
Experience
  • 1–2+ years of fast‑paced retail or relevant management experience.
  • Financial management: success driving top‑line sales, interpreting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expenses.
  • Retail management: monitoring inventory, operational excellence, service culture, and merchandising directives.
  • Leadership: attracting, developing, and motivating talent; adapting to change; building relationships.
Skills
  • Proficiency with basic technology (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking.
  • Ability to react under pressure, exercise judgment in ambiguous situations, and remain flexible.
Special

Position Requirements
  • Full‑time, flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Must work shifts beginning at 5:00 am.
  • Must be available on Sundays and Mondays.
Working Conditions
  • Continuous mobility throughout the store.
  • Frequent bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, reaching, twisting.
  • Frequent lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Frequent use of computer, phone, and office supplies.
