All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the system mission statement. This position works alone and assists Paint supervisor in applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Reads work orders and/or receives instructions from supervisor regarding paint projects.
- Smoothes and removes old paint from surfaces to prepare objects for painting.
- Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers as needed.
- Assists in selecting premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
- Removes fixtures, such as electrical switch covers and pictures from walls prior to painting.
- Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, covers surfaces such as baseboards, door frames, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
- Paints surfaces with brushes, spray guns, and/or paint rollers.
- Installs all types of floor covering including VCT, carpet squares, and self-leveling coating.
- Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
- Designs and paints parking lot spaces.
- Lays out and paints striping for athletic fields.
- Removes graffiti from buildings and other structures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Paint Supervisor.

- Education and/or
Experience:
A one year certificate from an accredited technical school; or six months related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Certificates or License
Required:
Valid Georgia driver's license. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. - Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently required to work in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Must be at work on time. Must meet attendance standards. Must conduct activities safely.
