Senior Designer - Mechanical/Electrical
GM Advanced Vehicle Execution (AVE) seeks a high‑performing Designer to develop math and design solutions for subsystems and components on low‑volume vehicle builds and special projects. The role demands creativity, initiative, independent critical thinking, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams. Candidates will apply Engineering Best Practices, Manufacturing Requirements, and transform designs into reality. Expertise in NX, Teamcenter, Teamcenter Visualization, and Microsoft Office is required.
Key Responsibilities- Creates math data models of advanced, complex components, systems, and subsystems from provided specifications and background.
- Creates components and assemblies as necessitated by VAS (Vehicle Assembly Structure).
- Creates manufacturing and fabrication drawings within NX as required.
- Develops, refines, and finalizes criteria and typical sections.
- Applies standard modeling methods and processes.
- Applies Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacturing, and Best Practices with an integration mindset.
- Facilitates and participates in design reviews, scheduled and informal workstation reviews.
- Documents and maintains material, mass, and other part specifications within the NX file.
- Independently integrates component subsystems into appropriate assembly structures.
- Performs studies/alternative designs and participates in recommendations for program direction.
- Supports lessons learned, updating best practices, and learning sessions with program teams.
- Communicates effectively with all stakeholders.
- Completes system/subsystem parts to meet timing requirements with quality.
- Supports product change management processes.
- 5+ years of experience in product design or related field.
- B.S., A.S., or HS diploma with relevant work experience, technical coursework/training or professional certifications.
- Expert in NX, Teamcenter, Teamcenter Visualization.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others including global partners.
- Solid understanding of product design concepts and manufacturing processes (e.g., electrical harness construction, sheet metal fabrication, stamping, casting, machining) in support of low‑volume vehicle builds.
- Ability to work independently to solve highly complex problems and lead teams to consensus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).
- Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire.
- Expert knowledge of electrical design and development process.
- Experience merging Net List using NX electrical utilities and routing tools.
- Complete vehicle design experience.
- Knowledge of CAE and GD&T.
- DFA/DFM for low‑volume vehicle builds.
- Ability to create NX drawings for build to print sourcing and shop fabrication.
- Knowledge of commonly used materials and related properties.
- Ability to synthesize design solutions for difficult problems.
- Understanding of packaging constraints and design context.
- Ability to apply advanced tool sets to increase robustness and efficiencies.
- Capability to support multiple projects and adaptability to variable requirements.
- Understanding of analysis tools.
- Hands‑on experience with vehicle restoration, electrical/mechanical background, or related hobby experience with a demonstrable portfolio.
- Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance as of first day of work.
This position requires eligibility to access classified information at the Secret U.S. Security Clearance level for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. citizenship. Candidates must be a U.S. person and eligible to obtain Secret clearance after hire.
