Communications and Marketing Specialist – Overview
The Communications and Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing communication strategies that enhance the organization’s visibility, reputation, capabilities, and engagement. This includes social media postings, outreach to elected officials, applications for awards, and press releases. This role works closely with senior management, finance, development, operations, human resources, and cross‑functional teams to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and audiences.
EssentialFunctions
- Create, edit, and distribute press releases, media statements, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Plan and coordinate CSI events including groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, re‑dedications, and visits from elected officials and dignitaries.
- Research and write in support of grant applications, award nominations, and CSI’s advocacy initiatives.
- Develop and maintain contacts with federal, state, and local elected officials, policymakers, and advocacy organizations.
- Produce cut‑sheets for development projects.
- Manage and grow the organization’s social media presence, ensuring brand consistency and engagement.
- Maintain relationships with media contacts and coordinate responses to media inquiries.
- Support marketing campaigns, events, and community outreach initiatives with effective communication materials.
- Oversee website content updates and ensure information is accurate, timely, and engaging.
- Develop and distribute internal newsletters, announcements, and employee communications.
- Support leadership in communicating company initiatives, policy changes, and culture‑building messages.
- Assist in planning and executing employee engagement and recognition programs.
- Ensure consistency in tone, branding, and messaging across all communication channels.
- Monitor and report on communication effectiveness through metrics and feedback.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the organization’s reputation through storytelling and positive media coverage.

Physical demandsThis position requires sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and significant amount of time on the phone. Must be able to push/pull/lift up to 30 pounds.

RequiredEducation and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or related field.
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and social media management tools.
- Experience with website content management systems (e.g., Word Press) preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and creativity.
- Strong interest in public policy, affordable senior housing, and housing cooperatives.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment.
- High level of professionalism and discretion with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Highly organized with strong project management skills and attention to detail.
