Overview

RN role at Embassy Healthcare in Warren, OH. Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, in accordance with federal, state, and local standards and the directives of the Director of Nursing Services.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of the nurses and nursing assistants in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines governing the long-term care facility.
  • Ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies and procedures; periodically review and revise department policies, manuals, and job descriptions as needed.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel.
  • Maintain current Nursing Service Procedures Manual and ensure compliance with its procedures.
  • Provide written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Nursing; coordinate nursing services with other resident services to meet residents’ total care needs.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
  • Participate in facility surveys and prepare the unit for inspections.
  • Assist in planning the nursing services portion of residents’ discharge plans and participate in weekly care conferences with the physiatrist.
Delegation

As an RN, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your duties with the RN scope of practice as defined by the Ohio Nurse Practice Act/ORC Chapter 4723.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinate and supervise nursing and nursing assistant staff; ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and facility surveys; prepare for and respond to inspections.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of care plans and discharge planning.
Charting and Documentation
  • Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts upon admission, transfer, and discharge in accordance with the medical records system (electronic or paper).
  • Review admission charts for accuracy and ensure physician orders are transcribed correctly; review nurse notes for compliance with charting guidelines.
  • Transcribe orders, maintain accurate medication records, and ensure documentation reflects care plans and patient status.
  • Report discrepancies to the Director of Nursing and ensure proper transfer and discharge documentation.
Drug Administration
  • Ensure staff administer medications as ordered; maintain adequate stock and narcotic records; report discrepancies to the Director of Nursing.
  • Order medications and supplies as needed; ensure policies for stop orders and disposal are followed.
Staff and Care Management
  • Participate in performance evaluations and staffing planning; communicate staffing needs and coverage issues to the Director of Nursing.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to nursing personnel; conduct daily rounds and address problem areas with the Director of Nursing.
  • Supervise nurse aides and ensure adherence to policies; collaborate with other departments to meet resident needs.
  • Maintain a positive unit environment and address complaints or grievances per facility procedures.
Nursing Care Functions
  • Coordinate admissions and room readiness; orient new residents/family members; collaborate with physicians on treatments and services.
  • Monitor, administer, and verify treatments, medications, diets, and care plans; ensure proper documentation and communication with physicians.
  • Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs; supervise nursing procedures and assessments; notify physicians of changes in residents’ conditions.
  • Coordinate with social and activity programs; ensure safe and sanitary nursing areas and equipment.
  • Manage post-incident reporting and post-mortem procedures as required.
Safety, Sanitation, and Equipment
  • Monitor safety practices in equipment use and ensure PPE availability and proper hand hygiene; participate in fire safety and disaster drills.
