Description

Function as the department Dispatcher, to include: emergency and non-emergency communications, operator, radio communication and monitoring, police dispatch, and civilian personnel dispatch.

Serve as the dispatch Office Manager, to include: equipment maintenance, monitoring of alarm and other systems, checking out and inventorying keys, completing lost and found reports, operation of a multiple phone line system, and monitoring of the department lobby.

Serve as Information and Data Retrieval Specialist, to include: MULES/NCIC computer operator, retrieval and entry of information from federal, state, local, and university databases.

Function as a Mass Communications Operator, to include: alerting the campus community by email, text, siren, and public address (PA) systems.

Examples of Duties

Function as the department Dispatcher

  • Receives emergency and non-emergency requests by telephone, radio, and in person.
  • Monitor radio communication on multiple frequencies and respond promptly and appropriately to radio traffic.
  • Coordinates and dispatches on and off campus Law Enforcement, Fire, Safety, Emergency aid personnel, and other resources to respond to calls and alarms.
  • Utilizes Computer-Assisted Dispatch system (CAD) to take initial information for police reports, assign police officers, track progress of calls, and document actions taken during incidents.
  • Operate a multiple line telephone system including Telephony (TTY).
  • Dispatch Safe Team, Parking Enforcement, and other personnel as requested and/or needed.

Serves as the dispatch Office Manager

  • Remain knowledgeable of department and university policy and procedure; respond tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately to inquiries from the public, staff, or other agencies on sensitive issues.
  • Issues keys to authorized personnel, controls the key check-in/check-out procedures while maintaining all appropriate records.
  • Prepares lost and recovered property reports as needed.
  • Point of contact through which information is received and disseminated to both Law Enforcement agencies and the general public.
  • Acts as receptionist for all three divisions of Public Safety and University inquiries, directing them to the responsible offices around campus.
  • Monitor security and fire alarm systems.
  • Remain knowledgeable of campus and Warrensburg to be able to direct law enforcement personnel and the general public to University buildings, departments, streets, parking lots, and city locations.
  • Coordinate with vendors and on campus resources to complete work orders and to maintain equipment within the department.
  • Serve as the point of contact through which information is received and disseminated to both Law Enforcement agencies and the general public.
  • Monitor the campus video security system.

Serve as Information and Data Retrieval Specialist

  • Inputs and retrieves information into Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) which links to the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and the International Justice and Public Safety Network (NLETS).
  • Remain knowledgeable of changes in technology and be familiar with program capabilities to actively use a variety of computer programs and data sources to retrieve information in emergency and non-emergency situations.

Function as a Mass Communications Operator

  • Initiates emergency siren and alerting systems in buildings and around campus as the situation dictates.
  • Send mass text messages and email as the situation dictates.
Typical Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience: 1 year police dispatch experience preferred.

  • MULES certification preferred
