Under general direction of the Employment Services Branch Manager and/or Employment Services Training Manager, the Community Job Skills Trainer is responsible for job skills training and planning, task analysis of job duties, retention and training of persons served.
On a regular basis, the Community Job Skills Trainer will have in-person and remote contact with persons served, referral sources, employers, management and team members. The Community Job Skills Trainer will engage in part or all activities as assigned to support vocational outcomes.
The Community Job Skills Trainer supports general and specific assignments including, but not limited to, individuals in community placement, partnership client evaluations and observations, partnership client training and partnership client career fairs. The Community Job Skills Trainer may serve as a floater as needed for all branches within the Employment Services Department.
The Community Job Skills Trainer will participate in professional development, staff trainings, as well as culture and team engagements and communications.
The Community Job Skills Trainer will be knowledgeable to perform essential functions of this position, including:
- Assists with participant intake and orientation procedures at employment site.
- Assists with participant employer site on-boarding, job orientations.
- Trains participants to fill chosen work assignments and assists them in learning their jobs tasks.
- Follows up on participants work to ensure it meets employer expectations.
- Works one-on-one with participants to improve work skills and production skills, as required.
- Utilizes coaching tools to increase motivation and knowledge of participants’ job responsibilities (role modeling, visual aids, prompting).
- Observes, evaluates and documents each participants’ performance.
- Creates task analyses to use in teaching participants how to complete their daily job tasks.
- Conducts evaluations on each participant at required milestones.
- Attends all VR appointments, with participants, as applicable.
- Coordinates with employer sites and various employer departments to learn skills prior to participant assignment.
- Shadows employer sites and various employer departments to determine appropriateness of participants as applicable.
- Attends all scheduled activities associated with participants’ program(s) and monthly meetings, as applicable.
- Orients the participants with completing resumes, applications and interview skills, as required.
- Provides off site training (i.e. using public transit) and soft skills training, as required.
- Establishes and maintains a professional rapport with internal and external customers including participants, families, and employer sites and various employer departments.
- Maintains all client contact standards and enters participant information in the case management database on a daily basis; physical case files will be maintained as applicable.
- Understands a variety of funding sources and completes appropriate documentation.
- Cross-trains on other mission-related programs/positions as applicable towards participants’ successful outcome overall (ACCT and Driving programs).
- Regularly updates Employment Services Manager on participant issues and concerns.
- All duties require maintaining participant confidentiality as required by both off-site employers and Ability KC policy and procedures.
- Completes tasks in compliance with all company policies, procedures and legal requirements.
- Serves as a floater for all Employment Services branches as needed.
- Provide assistance as primary and secondary support to Community Employment Specialist staff.
- All duties require maintaining patient/client confidentiality as required by Ability KC policy and procedures.
