Purpose Statement
The Security Guard proactively helps to provide a secure and safe environment that allows everyone using the healthcare facilities to receive quality services with minimal threats against their personal well-being or their property. The Security Guard will assist employees, patients, and visitors with parking needs, controlling entrances and exits to parking lots, patrolling the hospital campus, and reporting safety and security issues according to department procedures.
Provides personal escort and other routine security services to employees, patients, and visitors.

Essential Functions
- Protect property and staff by conducting interior and exterior rounds, observing for safety and security issues, theft, and monitoring parking lots.
- Promote visitor and employee safety by providing door checks, detecting lighting deficiencies, confirming proper operation of elevators, assisting with disruptive individuals, patient restraints, and providing escorts to staff and clients when requested.
- Respond to overhead pages or requests for assistance, including escorting emergency personnel through the building.
- Provide professional customer service when dealing with complex and dynamic situations when approached by staff or clients, utilizing a proactive approach to identifying safety and security hazards by communicating with clinical staff.
- Complete incident reports and shift logs and forward to appropriate individuals.
- Provide maintenance assistance through property conservation and campus safety approaches such as alarm testing, checking life safety equipment, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), oxygen tanks, fire extinguishers, access control, badging, door integrity checks, etc.
- Maintain security presence in building; serve as a deterrent for suspicious activity.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Shift Requirements
- Nights
- Thursday - 12:00 a.m. (midnight) to 6:00 a.m.
- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Requirements
Education / Experience / Skill Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 or more years of working experience in the security industry required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required.
- Valid CPI Certification or equivalent, preferred.
Physical / Mental Requirements
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 12 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Must continuously utilize manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Must continuously work under the pressure of near 100% accuracy.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Ability to walk, run, jump, stoop, crawl, lift up to 75 pounds and be able to respond to any type of emergency situation.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
