General Definition Of WorkPerforms responsible professional instruction to rising 5th grade students during Camp SMILE; motivates students to develop an interest in and an appreciation of learning; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision of the FCPS1 Camp Director. Overnight lodging and meals are provided for a five-day camp at the Northern Virginia 4‑H Educational and Conference Center.
Essential Functions / Typical Tasks- Further develop and enhance the existing camp curriculum, reflective of current 5th grade SOL.
- Communicate with co‑teacher to ensure curriculum is agreed upon and ready to implement.
- Provide list of materials needed for content area, to be approved and purchased.
- Provide lead teacher with content curriculum for student work books.
- Instruct and support the learning of rising 5th grade students.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other staff members in assisting students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Accompany and supervise students for all camp events (academic sessions, pool time, evening programming, meals).
- Enforce division policies and procedures governing students.
- Provide assistance in maintaining discipline and report inappropriate student behavior to the Camp SMILE Director.
- Perform related tasks as required.
General knowledge of instruction, ability to assist students with patience and understanding, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students, and ability to follow oral and written directions.
Education and ExperienceMust currently hold a Virginia license with appropriate endorsements through the Virginia Department of Education.
Teachers who currently teach 4th or 5th grades are preferred.
Teachers who have an interest in outdoor education are preferred.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
