We are currently seeking a Civil Project Engineer in our Warrenton, VA office. This role will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-complexity projects. The individual will work with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and client guidance to ensure positive outcomes.

Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, design, field inspections, writing reports, preparing permit applications, site drainage and grading designs, and learning the Civil Engineering trade. This position works within the project budget, and includes training, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts for civil site design projects for commercial, residential, industrial projects, etc.; use engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Complete and oversee permit applications for a variety of municipalities in coordination with the team, client, and reviewing jurisdiction
  • Surface modeling, watershed modeling, storm sewer design, sanitary sewer design engineering software
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information; build and maintain client relationships
  • Work as part of a project team to support execution of consulting projects; lead efforts in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives; document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring progress related to percent complete and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering; contribute to R&D and innovation efforts
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance; interpret state and local design criteria and apply to project needs
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Identify potential project problems and seek guidance from the Project Manager
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills in civil engineering
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Ability to lead teams using industry-standard software for civil engineering analysis and design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in oral and written forms
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 years preferred, in the Civil Engineering and Construction Industry
Physical Requirements
