Join Sargent & Lundy as a Lead Electrical Engineer 2 – Grid. In this role you will directly apply your knowledge of protective relaying and controls systems for HV and EHV substations while leading an engineering and design team on substation modifications and upgrades.

• Prepare relaying philosophies, select relay, control and communications equipment, develop SCADA and telecommunication concepts and configurations, and oversee I/O assignments and connection diagrams.
• Guide junior and senior-level engineers and designers in protection and controls engineering design, providing coordination for detailed design phases.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of engineering issues.
• Perform analysis and design of single line diagrams, substation relaying & metering diagrams (A.C. schematics), and D.C. schematics.
• Prepare engineering studies for client and peer review.
• Review calculations and drawings prepared by others and perform independent reviews.
• Coordinate with other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure complete and timely design.
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements, presenting findings and recommendations to clients and peers.
• Share knowledge through peer‑learning and the Sargent & Lundy “Communities of Practice.”
• Mentor less experienced engineers.
• Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews, plant site visits, and field verification as needed.

• BSEE with a power systems or controls emphasis from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 10+ years of experience focusing on protection / control / telecommunications for high‑voltage substations (design, installation, coordination).
• PE license.
• Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
• Experience writing and supporting relay calculation documentation.
• Familiarity with design codes and standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI).
• Experience with vendor protective relay equipment (SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler).
• Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS, or vendor software.
• Proficiency with MS Office and excellent written & verbal communication skills.

• Experience with in‑line, bus, and equipment protection, breakers, transformers, RTU, data concentrator SCADA systems, telemetering and communications (fiber optics, microwave, power‑line carrier).
• AutoCAD or Micro Station experience.
• Construction and start‑up experience.
• Testing or commissioning experience.
