Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Hydrogeologist for a Senior Scientist role in our Environmental & Earth Sciences Practice to be based in the Warrenville, IL office. In this role you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-level scientific support for projects centering on evaluation of groundwater movement, flooding, geomorphology, water resources and water quality, contaminant transport and fate, and evaluation of the impacts of climate change.

You will work with complex environmental and geospatial datasets to evaluate surface and subsurface hydrologic and geologic conditions, develop and communicate conceptual site models, and prepare high-quality technical deliverables for clients and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, technically rigorous, and eager to expand their expertise into emerging environmental issues, including climate change impacts on water supply, evolving policy related to water quality and waste management, and contaminants of emerging concern.

You will be responsible for

Examining surface and subsurface hydrologic and geologic conditions through the lens of water and contaminant fate & transport Synthesizing technical information and applying critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations Integrating, processing, and quality-checking large environmental and geospatial datasets Developing and assisting in the development of conceptual site models for contaminated sites with varying scales, hydrogeologic settings, and contaminants of concern

Preparing clear, visually effective figures, maps, and presentation materials to support client communications, technical updates, and project deliverables

Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Environmental and Earth Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate

You will have the following skills and qualifications

Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental or Geologic Engineering, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, Limnology, Water Resources, or similar discipline At least 3 years of experience in consulting or government agency (e.g., regulatory agency, Army Corps of Engineers, EPA, DEP)

Experience with common surface water and groundwater modeling is desired (MODFLOW, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, FLO-2D) Experience modeling chemical fate and transport is a plus Expertise in large dataset visualization Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills
