Minimum Requirements And Qualifications
  • Full-time sworn officer of a Police Department in any municipality, county, university, or State law enforcement agency, provided they are certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and are actively employed with a respective law enforcement agency within the State of Illinois for at least two years.
  • Applicants must provide documentation to show their current duties are similar to those of a police officer in the City of Warrenville. This will be completed through a combination of a review of employee evaluations, current and past assignments, and training documentation. Also, documentation must be provided by the applicant showing they have successfully completed the minimum standards basic law enforcement training course pursuant to the Illinois Police Training Act.
  • The applicant must be a legal resident of the United States and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
  • Education – applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by continuing education in police science or a related field; working toward an associate degree in criminal justice; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills to perform the job functions.
  • Applicants must possess a Valid Illinois Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • The applicant must agree to comply with all requirements of the position and possess the ability to pass all pre-employment examinations and training requirements.

Selection Process
  • Review of applications by Warrenville Police Department Command Staff.
  • Polygraph examination and interview with Warrenville Police Department personnel and Command Staff.
  • Background investigation to include criminal history, reference, credit check, and past and current employer’s check.
  • Interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commission.
  • If a conditional offer of employment is received, participation in a psychological examination is required.
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including a drug screen.
  • All lateral appointments are subject to a 12-month probationary period.
Salary and Benefits

Salary range effective 5/1/2025 is: $80,300 - $117,277. The starting salary for a lateral hire applicant will be dependent upon experience.
