Job Description
Level 4 Project Management Apprentice – Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
UKRI’s STFC is inviting applications for a fixed‑term apprenticeship (Level 4 Associate Project Manager). The role is based at Daresbury Laboratory, Keckwick Lane, Daresbury, WA4 4AD
.
- Salary: £24,340 per annum [(rising annually throughout the apprenticeship)]
- Contract type: Fixed‑term, 24 months
- Hours: Full‑time, 37 hours per week
- Location: Daresbury Laboratory, Keckwick Lane, Daresbury, WA4 4AD

- Start date: September 2026
- Project Management Principles – understanding Waterfall, Agile and hybrid approaches.
- Project lifecycle from initiation to closure.
- Governance, compliance and risk management.
- Budgeting, cost control and quality management.
- Change control, planning, scheduling and stakeholder management.
- Leadership, team management and conflict resolution.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Problem‑solving, decision‑making, monitoring and reporting.
- Secretary of governance meetings, including note‑taking.
- Organisation of meetings and governance boards.
- Data collation and review to support PMO processes.
- Management of the department’s small‑works process and progress monitoring.
- Review and maintenance of risk registers and RAID logs.
- Support to project managers in project delivery.
- Maintenance of the PMO SharePoint site.
- Creation and maintenance of guidance documentation and project templates.
- GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above).
- A‑level 3 qualification (e.g., A‑levels, BTEC, T‑level or Level 3 apprenticeship).
- Awareness of basic health and safety.
- Enthusiastic and motivated to learn, both in the workplace and through formal training.
- Enthusiastic and willing to learn about working in a project office environment.
- Organised, with effective time‑management skills.
- Team player, confident working independently.
- Applicants must evidence GCSE +5 or A*‑C in Maths and English. Predicted grades for candidates sitting GCSEs in Summer 2026 are acceptable.
