Locum Consultant in General Medicine

The closing date is 03 February 2026

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust General Medicine department provides Inpatient, Outpatient and Same Day Emergency Care services for our medically unwell patients.

Ward A8 is the General Medicine inpatient ward consisting of 34 beds and is staffed with a multi‑disciplinary team of consultants, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and a discharge facilitator.

B19 is the Cohort Ward and provides care for our patients with infections. The staff on B19 are highly trained in Infection Prevention and Control and are part of an MDT consisting of consultants, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and a discharge facilitator.

K25 and A10 provide care for patients with a lower acuity and focus on discharging patients in the most proactive and suitable way for their needs. The ward team works closely with our Integrated Discharge Team to develop robust discharge plans that ensure our patients’ needs are met upon leaving the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at Warrington Hospital and the post holder is expected to assist in the development of our innovative General Medicine inpatient services. The appointee will play a key role alongside the clinical director in the development of our clinical services and directly contribute to acute and general medicine care, discharge planning and the provision of outpatient clinics. There is an option to join the acute medical consultant on‑call rota and we will provide support within the job plan for any specialty interests.

Admin and SPA time is allocated accordingly, and you would also be part of the GIM on‑call rota.
