Are you a creative communicator excited by technology, innovation and storytelling? As a Digital Marketing Apprentice at the STFC Hartree Centre, you’ll help build and share engaging social media content, videos, and campaigns, highlighting how our scientists, technologists and professional services teams are driving digital innovation throughout the UK.
About the ApprenticeshipWe’re looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals ready to develop their skills through formal training and hands‑on experience. As an apprentice, you’ll gain real‑world experience, build technical and professional skills, and contribute to cutting‑edge research and innovation.
You’ll be fully supported throughout the programme with regular check‑ins from a dedicated Apprenticeship Coordinator, structured training, practical experience, and mentorship from industry professionals. In addition, you’ll have access to workshops, a peer network, and career development support.

DeliveryIn‑person, approximately 24 days per year
Responsibilities- Support the planning, delivery and evaluation of marketing and communication activities across digital channels.
- Help develop and carry out campaigns that increase awareness of the Hartree Centre’s projects and showcase the advantages of technologies such as artificial intelligence, supercomputing and quantum computing.
- Support the delivery of digital marketing campaigns from concept to evaluation, ensuring they align with Hartree Centre objectives and audience needs.
- Creating, curating and optimising content for digital channels including the website, blog, email newsletters and social media platforms.
- Using analytics tools to monitor and report on campaign performance, identifying insights and opportunities for improvement.
- Assisting with content scheduling, applying best practice to maximise reach and engagement.
- Contributing to the management of digital assets, ensuring brand consistency across multimedia content and materials.
- Supporting event promotion and business engagement activities, helping to design digital content for workshops, training programmes and conferences.
- Conducting market and audience research to inform content strategy and campaign planning.
- Collaborating with technical experts and partners to translate complex research into accessible, impactful stories for business and government audiences.
- GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) – required.
- Minimum of 104 UCAS tariff points at A Level (x 3 subjects at grades BCC or above) or an equivalent Level 3 qualification such as a BTEC National Diploma (D, M, M) – required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) – required.
- Strong interest in science, technology, innovation or digital technologies such as computing and AI – required.
- Creative eye for design with strong attention to detail – desirable.
- Digital literacy and basic knowledge of social media platforms – desirable.
- Organisational skills, ability to track tasks and manage time well – desirable.
- Problem‑solving mindset and ability to generate practical ideas – desirable.
- Basic awareness of health and safety – desirable.
- Enthusiastic and motivated to learn in the workplace and through formal training – desirable.
- Completion requires passing GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at A*‑C in grades 9‑4 or predicted grades for those sitting in Summer 2026.
