Job Description

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to support pupils with a variety of learning, communication, social, emotional and behavioural needs. You will help create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes and interventions.
  • Promote pupils’ independence, confidence and social development.
  • Support pupils with personal care needs where required.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and parents/carers.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and contribute to reviews and planning.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
Essential Requirements
  • Relevant qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Education or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Understanding of a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Requirements
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Experience with in a specialist SEND school or alternative provision setting.
  • Training in Autism, Behaviour Management, Team Teach, Makaton, PECS or similar approaches.
  • Experience supporting pupils with complex needs.
