I am working with an exciting contractor that has launched a new Utilities Division and is recruiting a hands-on Project Manager to lead delivery of utility infrastructure projects across England and Wales. The role is water-industry biased and ideal for an experienced site supervisor or project professional ready to step into a senior, autonomous delivery role. The position combines remote and office working with regular site visits and occasional overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead day-to-day delivery of utilities projects (water, gas, electricity) from mobilisation to close-out.
* Plan, programme and control scope, cost and schedule to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
* Manage site teams, contractors and supervisors; provide technical leadership and act as the escalation point for complex site issues.
* Oversee construction, commissioning and maintenance activities, ensuring high quality and compliance with specifications.
* Ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance (WIRS, NERS, GIRS) and maintain required site records.
* Manage stakeholder relationships with clients, designers, statutory authorities and third-party stakeholders.
* Produce and maintain project documentation: risk registers, method statements, progress reports, change control and client communications.
* Undertake site auditing, toolbox talks and health & safety leadership; promote excellent SHE standards.
* Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce cost and optimise programme delivery.
Qualifications &
Experience:
Essential
* Engineering or technical qualification.
* Proven project management experience delivering utility construction projects (water experience strongly preferred).
* SMSTS and valid CSCS card.
* Membership of an appropriate engineering/professional institution.
* Strong site-based engineering and safety experience.
* Full, valid UK driving licence.
Desirable
* Water SHEA, NCO (W) and Hygiene cards.
* Knowledge of CESWI, British Standards and other technical specifications relevant to utility works.
* Demonstrable experience with WIRS / NERS / GIRS enquiries and regulatory compliance.
* Experience establishing or developing an engineering function.
Benefits:
* Competitive salary and benefits package.
* Hybrid working with flexibility between home, office and site.
* Opportunity to shape and grow a newly established Utilities Division.
* Career progression and access to technical and management training.
* Travel allowance and support for overnight site stays.
* Supportive, safety-focused culture and clear routes for professional development.
