Senior Mechanical Designer

Position: Senior Mechanical Designer (Contract)
Are you a Senior Mechanical Designer looking for a role where your work directly supports major asset care projects?
Do you have strong experience designing mechanical systems for complex or highly regulated environments?
Are you confident producing high‑quality design deliverables using Aveva E3D, AutoCAD and Autodesk tools?
The Opportunity
A leading engineering consultancy is expanding its mechanical design capability and is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to support a portfolio of nuclear asset care projects. You’ll play a key role producing compliant, accurate and fully integrated mechanical design packages across several major engineering scopes.

This role would suit candidates working in these roles
Mechanical Designer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, Piping Designer, Mechanical CAD Technician, Mechanical Draughtsperson, Design Engineer, Layout Engineer, Plant Designer, Mechanical Systems Designer, or Mechanical Project Designer.
Your duties and responsibilities will be

* Developing complete mechanical design packages, including specifications, drawings, calculations and supporting documentation.

* Creating technical reports, layout drawings and design assessments that meet legal, safety and performance requirements.

* Producing mechanical and piping designs that align with relevant standards and industry legislation.

* Collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams and engaging with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

* Ensuring design work is integrated, fit‑for‑purpose and delivered to agreed time, cost and quality expectations.
You will have the following qualifications and experience

* Strong background working in regulated environments, ideally with experience in nuclear or similarly controlled industries.

* Proven ability to deliver safe, compliant and operable mechanical design solutions.

* Proficiency using Aveva E3D, AutoCAD, Inventor and associated design tools.

* Experience applying relevant British, ISO and mechanical engineering standards, including piping and machinery‑related regulations.

* A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or HNC/HND with extensive design experience), plus relevant design software training.
