Great British Energy - Nuclear’s first step was to start the technology selection process for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in 2023. SMRs can potentially be quicker to deploy and less expensive to build than traditional nuclear power plants because they are smaller, have factory based modular manufacturing and more flexible deployment options. In June 2025,
Great British Energy - Nuclear announced that Rolls-Royce SMR had been selected as the preferred bidder to build the UK’s first SMRs, following a technology selection process that began in 2023.

The Configuration Management (CM) Engineer is part of the Digital Delivery function, reporting to the Configuration Management Lead. You will be responsible for the following project configuration management activities:

• Implementation of the CM Plan,
• Working to and enhancing CM processes and procedures,
• Performing oversight of suppliers CM,
• Providing CM training and guidance to individuals involved in the CM process,
• Establishing baselines of structured and linked product configuration information,
• Ensuring configuration changes are of acceptable quality and efficiently expedited,
• Producing status reports to meet project needs, and
• Embracing the implementation and use of modern digital tools and information management good practices.

You will form part of the establishment of a major programme. This will provide you with an opportunity to be part of a team ensuring successful delivery of a First of a Kind (FOAK) SMR Project, helping to ensure it minimises its environmental impact whilst delivering cost-effective energy capacity for the UK. Whilst this is a fast-paced and exciting challenge, you will need to be comfortable with uncertainty, ambiguity and change.

• Play a key role in supporting the Configuration Management Lead bring the CM Plan and supporting processes and procedures to life.
• Deliver CM activities across the SMR Project scope and support improvements to processes, procedures, ways of working, and tools that deliver consistency and quality of product configuration information throughout the lifecycle.
• Proactively engage with stakeholders to establish and maintain configuration baselines of approved and accepted product configuration information.
• Support Licensing and Permitting, and Safety, Security, Safeguards and Environment case development through accurate configuration records and management of change.
