Aboutthe Business Unit
Mott Mac Donald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors.
APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.
With extensive experience in the global defence sector, Mott Mac Donald’s advisory and programme delivery teams support a wide range of clients including the UK Ministry of Defence, NATO, and international partners. Our work spans complex infrastructure upgrades, strategic asset management, and carbon reduction initiatives across land, air, maritime, and nuclear domains. Recent projects include the modernisation of submarine facilities at Devonport and Clyde, infrastructure delivery for the US Visiting Forces (USVF) at RAF Lakenheath, and support for the AUKUS submarine partnership, as well as defence infrastructure across the UK.

Overview of the RoleOwing to the organic expansion of our Defence portfolio we have a unique opportunity for Quantity Surveyors to join our fast‑growing teams in Scotland. This role places you at the heart of some of the most complex and challenging projects in the UK today, as we mobilise for key opportunities across a broad portfolio of Defence programmes.
The Quantity Surveyor will support the successful delivery of client projects. The role focuses on effective cost management, NEC contract administration and commercial leadership to ensure efficient, transparent delivery aligned with client objectives. You will drive value, manage risk, build effective stakeholder relationships and champion commercial best practice throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities and Duties- Manage and administer NEC4 contracts in accordance with project and governance requirements
- Control and implement contract variations efficiently, ensuring timely and compliant agreement
- Maintain accurate cost control, monitoring and forecasting
- Continuously improve the quality and reliability of cost forecasts and budgets
- Work collaboratively with client and contractor teams to achieve project objectives, KPIs and value outcomes
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- NEC ECC accreditation and practical experience administering NEC4 ECC contracts
- Hold, or be working towards, membership of an appropriate professional body or equivalent such as MRICS
