The Structural Analysis and Assessment Team is seeking a motivated and dynamic Graphite Team Leader to manage a group of 6‑8 specialists focused on the structural integrity of nuclear graphite. The team supports life extension for the UK’s Advanced Gas‑cooled Reactor fleet and works on emerging reactor design projects. The role includes technical oversight, line management and business development, with a potential path to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • People Leadership
    • Line‑manage, coach and support a team of 6‑8 engineers.
    • Conduct regular team meetings to review delivery, welfare and performance.
    • Complete annual appraisals and support personal development planning.
    • Recognise team achievements and recommend promotions where appropriate.
    • Foster a culture of trust, inclusion and high performance.
    • Lead by example, demonstrating commitment and behaviours in line with Amentum’s values.
  • Project & Technical Delivery
    • Lead and contribute to complex client projects.
    • Plan and manage team workload, resolving resource conflicts.
    • Maintain high standards of quality, safety and compliance.
  • Business Development
    • Build relationships with existing and new clients.
    • Identify growth opportunities in emerging reactor programmes.
    • Lead or support the development of bids and proposals.
    • Contribute to long‑term planning and positioning in the developing graphite integrity market.
Qualifications
  • Degree in any numerate scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Technical experience with structural integrity, finite element analysis or nuclear graphite.
  • Proven skills and experience with tendering and contract processes, bidding and winning work.
  • Effective communication skills and strong organisation, problem‑solving and prioritising abilities.
  • Motivation and commitment to strong technical delivery.
  • Curiosity, a questioning attitude and analytical skills to drive innovative solutions.
