Electrical Authorising Engineer - Senior Engineer

Responsibilities

• Act as the point of contact for electrical safety within the Environment Division.
• Provide advice and support to all stakeholders relating to electrical safety.
• Ensure activities relating to electrical safety are aligned with statutory regulation and legislation.
• Apply high level technical knowledge surrounding electrical safety.
• Improve policies and procedures within the field of electrical safety.
• Set, manage and assess standards for competence of Engineering Safety Appointed people such as Authorised Persons and Nominated Persons.
• Review suitability of safe systems of work for delivery by the Environment Division and contract personnel.
• Control and review legislative records pertaining to engineering safety.
• Provide advice on safe and effective implementation of engineering safety.
• Provide oversight of supply chain delivery of engineering safety.
• Exercise judgement on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety within area of authority.
• Approve live working and maintain high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality.
• Coach and mentor others and support project delivery teams to meet CDM regulations compliance.
• Assist with pre‑contract activities to ensure relevant key personnel are appointed for electrical safety matters.
• Serve as a subject‑matter expert with regard to electrical safety and support Health and Safety team with incident investigations from an electrical safety perspective.
• Ensure electrical engineering activities, safe systems of work and assets comply with relevant legislation, regulations and professional engineering support to operational teams.

• Understanding of relevant legislation and high level knowledge of maintaining LV and/or HV electrical, control & instrumentation equipment.
• Previous experience as an Authorising Engineer/Authorised Person.
• Experience delivering electrical engineering works within the Municipal Water and Wastewater industries.
• Experience identifying, managing and reporting on engineering safety risks to senior management.
• HV experience desirable; DSEAR experience desirable.
• Knowledge of C & G 2382-18 BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations & NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificates.
• Degree level in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• +7 years working within Municipal Water and Wastewater industries, with varied clients.
• Preference for Chartered Member of a recognised professional Engineering body.
• Competent in contracting/consulting environment and formal appointment as an Electrical Authorised Person.
• ISO 9001 Lead Auditor and NEBOSH preferable but not essential.
• Experience reviewing subcontractors' documentation and knowledge of current H&S legislation and British Standards.
• Strong communication, stakeholder and IT skills; leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Problem‑solving skills, flexibility, willingness to embrace innovations, and ability to prioritise workload.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with pride in work, and willingness to develop personally and support learning of others.
